Money and shopping
In this lesson we will talk about money and shopping. Can you match the words and word combinations to the pictures below?
Here is what I think about shopping. How about you? Can you share your thoughts in the comments?
I love shopping. It's so much fun to buy a new leather jacket, to try it on after the purchase several times and then wear it with my favorite scarf. It's even more fun if you have saved up money to buy something special and emptied your money box at last before going to a shop. There are so many reasons why people go shopping, but one of the main reasons is retail therapy. Shopping can make people look better and feel better. Some people even become shopaholics and can't stop spending their money. Even if they know that it's a waste of money people buy stuff. There are different ways to shop, too. You can buy things in a department store or you can shop online. You can pay by credit card or in cash. And one more thing - you can do window shopping. Some people hunt for bargains and wait for sales, a period when the shops bring down prices on many items. They prefer to buy things at a clearance price and look for that holy grail called a good bargain. But if you don't want to spend money, you can keep it on a bank account and leave it to your children. You can even keep it in foreign currency if that makes sense. And you can enjoy the thought of lending it to somebody who needs it…
How true is it for you?
- Stingy people make me feel angry.
- I would like to be a well off person.
- I think the rich must help the poor.
- Affluent people are happier than broke people.
- When I was a student I was often hard-up and hungry.
- If you are prosperous, you must try to teach others how to become wealthy.
